MJ completed their B.A. in Biophysics at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA. During their undergraduate studies, they worked as an research intern under Dr. Alejandro Bertolet in the Physics Group at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they developed an algorithm to predict biologically effective dose (BED) distributions from 90Y trans-arterial radioembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma from 99mTc-MAA pseudo-theranostic PET images. As a Ph.D. student in the ART Lab, MJ has been awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, which provides funding for 3 years of graduate studies. Additionally, they were the UW-Madison Dept. of Medical Physics’ sole recipient of the 2023 Advanced Achievement Fellowship, providing funding for another 2 years of studies. MJ’s research interests are broad, but centers primarily around the radiobiological effects of RPT and EBRT on various cancers as well as the manipulation of core biological responses to ionizing radiation, including radiation-induced senescence, for therapeutic advantage.
